Fubara speaks on emergency rule, discusses depression, hopes for victory

Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers State, has expressed dismay over President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state on March 18, 2025.
Speaking to Muslim leaders who visited him at his private residence in Port Harcourt on April 1, 2025, Fubara acknowledged the emotional toll of the situation.
“We, as humans, might feel a bit depressed because of the situation. Maybe because of what we are seeing, but we might not understand that what is deeper and beyond us has happened,” Fubara said.
Despite the challenges, Fubara emphasized the importance of faith and patience.
“As Christians, we believe that everything happens for a purpose, and I strongly believe that this situation is leading us toward a greater purpose,” he said.
The suspended governor called for calm among his supporters, urging them to remain steadfast: “No matter what we see, we must remain steadfast. In all things, we give glory to Almighty God. I believe that, in the end, we will emerge stronger.”
Fubara’s suspension, along with that of his deputy and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, will last for an initial period of six months. President Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as the state administrator during this period.
