Over 100 PDP, SDP members defect to APC in Ondo

By Boye Oyeyemi –

Over 100 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) have officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State. The defectors, mainly party leaders and influential figures, pledged their allegiance at Oke Surulere Ward 7 in Irun-Akoko, Akoko North West Local Government Area.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa welcomed the new members and urged them to demonstrate loyalty to the APC while supporting the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Representing the governor, his Special Adviser on Legislative and Party Affairs, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, alongside Dr. Kole Agesin, highlighted the APC’s leadership in the country, saying, “Our party is leading Nigeria, so let’s focus on our mission rather than opposition claims.”

The Commissioner for Water Resources and Public Sanitation, Hon. Ayodele Akande, through Rt. Makanjuola Akintola, encouraged the defectors to support both Tinubu and Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration, stressing the importance of continued grassroots backing.

At the event, State Party Chairman aspirant, Hon. Gani Dauda, praised the governor’s achievements and pledged full support for the president’s reelection.

Dauda added, “Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has performed exceedingly well. We are united in this local government and pledge our loyalty to him. However, our people have requested that our road be included in government development plans and that appointments be considered for our area.”

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Mrs. Arigbede Adenike vowed to remain committed to the APC, noting that their former parties had failed to meet expectations.

The defection is seen as a boost for the APC in Ondo State, strengthening its position ahead of upcoming elections and consolidating support for both President Tinubu and Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration.
