Fani-Kayode, Reno pick Tinubu, urge Nigerians to to return President in 2027 elections

A political advocacy group led by Femi Fani-Kayode and Reno Omokri has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a joint statement issued on Saturday, the pair said their endorsement was based on the need to preserve national stability, unity, and the long-standing political arrangement that rotates presidential power between Northern and Southern Nigeria.

“Our candidate and choice for the 2027 Presidential Elections is His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read.

The group argued that the North had already completed its turn in the country’s informal zoning arrangement through the two-term administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2023.

“After that tenure, it is the turn of Southern Nigeria to take and retain the baton of power for a commensurate period of time, to wit, two terms of four years each,” they stated.

Fani-Kayode and Omokri described any move to return presidential power to the North after only one term under Tinubu as detrimental to national cohesion.

“We view it as unpatriotic and inimical to the unity, equilibrium, and progress of Nigeria for anyone to even conceive of power returning to Northern Nigeria after only one term of four years,” the statement added.

The duo also praised Tinubu’s economic and infrastructure policies, claiming the administration had recorded notable gains in economic growth and national development.
