Ekiti bans graduation parties for nursery, primary, secondary pupils
By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ekiti State Government has outlawed graduation ceremonies for pupils in kindergarten, nursery, primary, and secondary schools across the state.
The directive, which affects both public and private schools, will take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.
The policy was communicated in a circular issued by the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Mike Omolayo.
The government explained that the decision is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and curbing the excesses associated with end-of-session ceremonies.
According to the circular, “Ekiti State Government remains committed to the once-in-six-years book review policy for primary schools, while the review cycle at the secondary school level has been changed from once every three years to once every four years.”
It further stated that parents and guardians should ensure that siblings are allowed to reuse textbooks, as long as the books remain in good condition.
