Osun 2026: Davido alleges soldiers trying to stop him from entering state

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers were attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State as residents vote in the governorship election on Saturday.

Davido raised the alarm in a post on his verified X account early on Saturday, saying he had been informed that soldiers were trying to block his entry into the state.

“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun. This won’t happen. Every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point in time,” he wrote.

The allegation came hours after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement across Osun State from midnight on Friday until 6 p.m. on Saturday as part of security measures for the election.

The restriction is among measures put in place by security agencies to maintain law and order during the poll, with thousands of personnel deployed across the state.

Davido, a nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively involved in his uncle’s re-election campaign under the Accord Party. Adeleke is seeking a second term against candidates, including the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Reacting to Davido’s claim, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad described the singer’s reaction as “dramatic”, arguing that the movement restriction had been publicly announced as a general security measure for the election.

Ahmad said the restriction did not amount to a denial of citizens’ rights, stressing that freedom of movement should not be interpreted as permission to disregard lawful security measures designed to ensure a peaceful and credible election.
