Funding, consistency biggest challenges for Nigerian creatives — Mummy Wa

Nigerian content creator and skit maker, Kemi Ikuseedun, popularly known as Mummy Wa, has disclosed that money remains one of the biggest challenges facing creatives in Nigeria.

Ikuseedun made this disclosure during a recent interview with Saturday Beats. She explained that a lack of finance sometimes makes creatives reconsider their career paths, even when they have the passion, creativity and ideas.

She added that consistency is also one of the most difficult aspects of being a creative, particularly while managing several projects and ideas.

In her words, “The hardest part for me is showing up and being consistent amidst other things one is doing. There are a lot of projects and ideas, so in the midst of all these, one has to consistently show up for those things one has already done, and it’s crazy. Being better than your version of yesterday and just consistently showing up”.

Speaking about her personality, Ikuseedun revealed that being a strong and independent woman does not affect her relationships, as she only entertains people who are mentally secure. She also expressed her disdain for people who are intimidated by her success.

“I don’t entertain people who are intimidated by strong women. I attract men who love strong women,” she said.

On her craft, the skit maker revealed that she enjoyed portraying her popular Mummy Wa character. However, she noted that the character represented only one aspect of her craft, highlighting her versatility as an actress.
