The Tinubu-Ambo Support Group has debunked the rumour of receiving N100 million to endorse Dr Kadri Hamzat as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos for the 2027 general election.
The group, in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, Mr Wale Balogun, disclosed that Hamzat’s endorsement was not financially induced.
They said, “Our attention has been drawn to a rumour alleging that Dr Seyi Bamgbade, Director General of the Tinubu-Ambo Support Group, collected the sum of ₦100 million through Hon. James Abiodun Faleke to declare support for Dr Obafemi Kadri Hamzat.”
“We wish to state clearly and unequivocally that this allegation is false, baseless and entirely unfounded. At no time did Dr Seyi Bamgbade, a tireless grassroots mobiliser, receive any money from Hon. Faleke or from Dr Obafemi Kadri Hamzat in exchange for political support.”
“For the record, Dr Bamgbade has consistently demonstrated loyalty and commitment within the progressive family. As Director General of the Tinubu AMBO Support Group, he stood firmly with former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode from his emergence in 2015 and throughout efforts towards his second-term campaign, with his team playing a pioneering role.”
The statement went further to add that Akinwunmi Ambode conveyed his congratulations to Dr Obafemi Kadri Hamzat on his emergence as consensus candidate, a development that further underscores the unity and alignment within the progressive fold.
As progressives, the group reaffirmed its commitment to the leadership of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda, as well as ongoing mobilisation towards his re-election in 2027.
They also urged the general public and party members to disregard any misleading rumours, asserting that such acts are clearly designed to distract and sow division.
